Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder set to acquire stake in Liverpool

  • Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly part of an investment consortium that is nearing a deal to purchase a minority stake of roughly one-third in Premier League football club Liverpool.
  • According to Sky News, the syndicate is being led by British-Indian millionaire Amit Bhatia, the former co-owner of Queens Park Rangers, and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
  • Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group confirmed last month that they had been approached regarding a strategic minority investment, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
  • Liverpool Football Club is currently valued at around £4.5 billion, representing a substantial increase since Fenway Sports Group acquired the team for approximately £300 million in 2010.
  • Bezos, who is the world’s fourth-richest man with an estimated fortune of $257 billion, previously explored buying American NFL franchises before joining this consortium.
