TAMBUNAN: Keningau MP Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan expressed full support for the establishment of the Sabah Native Customary School (Saans) Tambunan branch, as well as agreeing to accept his appointment as Patron of Saans Tambunan District.
Dr Jeffrey, who is also Tambunan Assemblyman and Sabah Agricultural Marketing (Sama) Chairman said the customs, culture and heritage of the Native community are treasures that must be preserved, documented and systematically passed down so that they remain relevant and a source of pride for present and future generations.
He described the establishment of the Saans Tambunan branch as a strategic step in strengthening customary education, producing more certified practitioners and inheritors of native customs and empowering the identity of the Native community in Sabah.
He approved a contribution of RM15,000 to assist in the construction of the Dusun Bundu Liwan Ethnic Customary House at the Saans Headquarters in Kampung Lumawang, Tuaran.
Meanwhile, Saans Tambunan Principal Dr Lily James Billy expressed appreciation to Dr Jeffrey for consenting to accept the appointment.
