Fan-favorite game show Jeopardy! is officially expanding with a special spin-off.
Jeopardy! YouTube Edition will feature three YouTube creators playing for a charity of their choice. Just like the original program, contestants are given answers and have to provide the right questions, which will all be about YouTube and internet culture.
The spin-off is hosted by Ken Jennings, who took over the hosting duties of Jeopardy! after the death of Alex Trebek in 2020.
Jeopardy! YouTube Edition will premiere on the program’s YouTube channel March 31 at 9 p.m. EST, and will feature drag performer and host of YouTube program Monet Talks, Monét X Change, playing for GLAAD. Singer Rebecca Black and host of the YouTube show Dimension20, Brennan Lee Mulligan, will both play for The Trevor Project.
“Jeopardy! is one of the most successful and enduring brands in television history, with decades of cultural relevance and a loyal audience,” Suzanne Prete, president of game shows for Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement. “As we bring our YouTube strategy to life, we’re incredibly excited to build on that legacy while connecting with new audiences in a way that feels fresh, interactive, and native to the platform.”
Kevin Allocca, global head of culture and trends for YouTube, added: “Blurring the lines between a traditional broadcast format and a new era of digital consumption results in something that’s fun for both new fans and old ones.
“Seeing Jeopardy! intersect with YouTube creators underscores how the two can amplify each other in ways that feel surprisingly authentic and are a testament to the enduring relevance of these formats.”
According to Sony Pictures TV, which owns Jeopardy!, the YouTube-inspired categories in the spinoff will span from current viral trends to the platform's 20-year history. There will also be “custom video clues featuring notable YouTube talent.”
Sony Pictures TV worked with YouTube creative agency We Are Social to relaunch the Jeopardy! YouTube channel.
“Working off the insight that Gen Z is currently chasing knowledge and substance on social, and knowing that YouTube is the OG home for learning and long-form, we felt there was no better flex than centering Jeopardy! as the cultural standard for testing their smarts,” Katie McDonald, We Are Social head of strategy, said.
Jeopardy! YouTube Edition is the latest expansion of the syndicated game show, which debuted in 1964. The series launched Pop Culture Jeopardy! in December 2024, with a second season to be released this year, and Rock & Roll Jeopardy! in 1998, which ran for four seasons.
Meanwhile, Jep!, a children’s television game show, ran for one season in 1998, and Sports Jeopardy! ran from 2014 to 2016.
