Jeremy Clarkson to return to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? after cancer diagnosis

Jeremy Clarkson is returning to our screens after announcing that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer.

The former Top Gear host, 66, shocked the world in June when he shared his cancer diagnosis on his reality show Clarkson’s Farm.

The cancer was diagnosed early, with Clarkson revealing in a subsequent interview that a post-treatment test two months ago found no indication of cancer and declared him in remission.

In addition to filming for Clarkson’s Farm season six, which is already underway, the outspoken TV personality is also returning to host Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, having taken over the long-standing game show from Chris Tarrant in 2018.

He’ll be at the helm for a further 15 episodes, and will also be back for the second season of spin-off Millionaire Hot Seat, ITV announced on Monday (29 June). Both series will film later this year.

Clarkson’s cancer diagnosis was made public in the final episodes of season five of Clarkson’s Farm, during which he explained that he had undergone a biopsy after a medical check-up.

Clarkson recalled being told that the cancer was aggressive but in its early stages. He underwent surgery to remove part of his prostate.

The season ended with Clarkson in hospital, telling his viewers: “If this is all successful, I’ll see you in season six, and if it isn’t, I won’t. Take care, everyone.”

A week after the episode aired, the TV host revealed that he was officially in remission, after a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test showed no indication of cancer.

In a Sunday Times article headlined “I've cheated death twice. I’m the world’s luckiest man”, Clarkson said that as a result of his health scares, including severe coronary artery disease in October 2024, he’d become intensely aware of wanting to see his grandchildren grow up.

Clarkson also admitted that the dramatic final scene of Clarkson’s Farm season six had been as a result of his cancer treatment “going awry” after he put himself back on blood-thinning tablets without medical advice.

“That was horrific and it was all my own fault,” he said. “I’d been on drugs for heart issues and I had to come off them during the cancer treatment. Two or three weeks after the cancer operation, I thought I’d better put myself back on those blood thinners. Big mistake, huge. It (resulted in) a very big emergency in the middle of the night.”

Clarkson continued: “I’m not even going to go into the treatment that was required as a result of that, because it was horrible. I didn’t ask a doctor, I just thought, ‘I’m sure it will be all right to go back on blood thinners.’”
