BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine said he was "taken aback" by Scott Mills' sacking as he reacted to the news live on air on Monday (30 March).
The breakfast show host has been sacked by the BBC over allegations relating to his personal conduct.
Mills was abruptly taken off air last week. He last hosted his show on Tuesday and signed off with: “See you tomorrow.”
A BBC spokesperson said: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”
Mills’ sacking led Monday’s noon bulletin on his former station.
Vine said he had not heard anything about the news until 17 minutes before his Monday show began.
