SEMPORNA, 16 September 2026 – In conjunction with Malaysia Day, Jetama Sdn Bhd organised its Annual Underwater Clean-Up from 15 to 18 September 2026, targeting the removal of three tonnes of marine debris.
Held in the waters around Semporna and Mabul Island, the programme is co-organised with the Semporna Tourism Association, Malaysia Scuba Diving Association (MSDA) and Semporna Professional Divers Association (SPDA), with the participation of 15 volunteer divers.
“This Malaysia Day initiative reflects the spirit of shared prosperity and responsibility in protecting our marine environment. We have collected 1.658 tonnes of marine debris over the first two days, with another two more days to go,” said Ag. Ahmad Zaki, Jetama representative.
Jetama is committed in removing 12 tonnes of marine debris annually under its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme. Since the programme began in 2024, the company has removed 36 tonnes of debris from Sabah’s waters.
Jetama also holds two Malaysia Book of Records titles for the “Heaviest Marine Debris Underwater Clean-Up in a Day”, with 2,171kg collected, and the “Heaviest Plastic Waste Underwater Clean-Up in a Day”, with 1,578kg collected.
