Canadian-American comedy legend Jim Carrey receives a Cesar d’honneur in Paris, delivering his acceptance speech in French and reflecting on his iconic career.

PARIS: Canadian-American actor Jim Carrey was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at France’s premier film ceremony.

The 64-year-old comedy legend accepted the Cesar d’honneur at the 51st Cesar Awards with a speech delivered in French.

“How was my French? Almost mediocre, right?” Carrey joked to the audience, recalling a French relative from “around 300 years ago”.

The ceremony opened with a sketch by host Benjamin Lavernhe celebrating Carrey’s iconic role in “The Mask”.

Carrey’s career began in stand-up comedy before skyrocketing in the 1990s with cult hits like “Dumb and Dumber”, “The Mask” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”.

He later shifted to more serious roles, winning a Golden Globe for his performance in “The Truman Show”.

He also earned critical acclaim for his role in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” opposite Kate Winslet.

Following several international hits including the “Sonic” franchise, Carrey stepped back from film in the early 2020s.

In other awards, American director Richard Linklater won best director for his 2025 film “Nouvelle Vague”.

The black and white film explores the shooting of Jean-Luc Godard’s French New Wave classic “Breathless”.
