The Social Welfare Department is searching for the mother of a baby girl left at a Penang hospital last year, urging the public to help locate the missing Indonesian national.
BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Seberang Perai Tengah Social Welfare Department is searching for the biological mother or next of kin of a baby girl abandoned at Seberang Jaya Hospital.
The infant was left at the hospital on May 16 last year, according to a statement from Child Protector Siti Nur Fazlina Md Daud.
She said the mother, an Indonesian national known as Dita Ledia, disappeared during discussions about the child’s welfare.
“The baby was rescued under the Child Act 2001 and is now in a safe place, under the care of the JKM,” Siti Nur Fazlina stated.
The child does not possess a birth certificate because the mother failed to register the birth.
Efforts to trace the mother have been unsuccessful as she has no valid address and her provided phone number is unreachable.
An application for exemption under Section 15(3) of the Child Act has been approved to allow media publication of the case.
Anyone with information about the child’s mother is urged to contact Siti Nur Fazlina at 04-538 2584.
