SHAH ALAM, Sep 3 - The Public Works Department (JKR) will conduct a detailed investigation soon to assess the extent of damage to the drainage system and drain covers near the pedestrian walkway at SMK Convent Klang before carrying out any repair work.
Pandamaran state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee said the inspection findings will form the basis for determining the scope and duration of the repairs required.
“JKR will conduct a comprehensive inspection this week or next week and submit a report to me as soon as possible.
“The time required to repair the road depends on the extent of the damage. If the damage is serious, it will take longer.
“However, if the damage is minor, it will not take long,” he told Media Selangor when contacted.
SMK Convent Klang Board of Governors representative Lau Chu Mooi brought the issue to Leong's attention when he attended a National Day celebration at the school recently.
Following the complaint, he conducted an inspection with JKR alongside the Klang Royal City Council's Engineering Department and Environmental Services Department.
Their inspection found cracks and subsidence around the pedestrian walkway covering the drainage channel, raising concerns about the safety of the school community and nearby residents.
Leong added that the drainage structure beneath the pedestrian walkway meant the actual extent of the damage could not be determined immediately and required further inspection.
“If a sudden collapse occurs, students may have to use the nearby main road and could be exposed to danger,” he said.
