Following the major criticisms online, Jocelyn Chia went MIA from social media after her sensitive remarks about the missing MH370 flight sparked rage among many Malaysians.

The stand-up comedian, who is formerly a Singaporean but now based in New York did not disappear for long. Just this morning (June 9), Jocelyn “re-emerged” and provided an update via his Instagram stories. If you’re expecting an apology or an explanation of why she said what she said, heads up!

There’s none.

“Impersonating a celebrity”

In what many thought to be an account deactivation, Jocelyn clarified and said that everything, including the news that she was cancelled by IG, was nothing but merely a rumour.

According to Jocelyn, her account was suspended after the public reported her for impersonating a celebrity. Many Malaysians said that they had also reported her account for “giving hate speech”. In response to that, Jocelyn had a “perfect” response about the impersonation.

“Who is the celebrity? Jocelyn Chia.”

She also took the opportunity to thank the comedy community, as well as the non-binary communities in her other IG stories.

“I was like, uh-oh, now I’m really getting cancelled.”

As of today, her original post showing her deliverance of the insensitive jokes about Malaysia and the missing flight has been removed from her account. Comedy Cellar, the place in New York where she made the remarks has also removed the post from their social media.

“Thicker than cow skin”

Due to the absence of an apology and explanation, it’s no surprise that many Malaysian netizens are not happy about her return.

“Keyboard warriors, it’s time to work again.”

“This shows that it’s not easy to take down an IG account. They will always have supporters everywhere.”

“Her audacity to say these. Her face is thicker than cow skin.”

By the time Jocelyn issues an apology (assuming she ever does), do you think it’ll be too late by then given how much the damage has been done?
