
A doctor in Johor Bahru faces murder charges for the deaths of his wife and five-year-old son, plus obstruction and evidence tampering charges.
JOHOR BAHRU: A doctor was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of his wife and their five-year-old son.
Chia Tong Hong, 34, nodded his head after the separate murder charges were read out to him in court.
The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death sentence or imprisonment for a term of 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
No plea was recorded for the murder charges as such cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab and Magistrate A Shaarmini heard that Chia was charged with murdering his wife, Phun Lai Ling, 37, and their son, Aaden Chia Yee Heng.
The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Bandar Dato’ Onn between 9.50 pm and 10.34 pm on Dec 30, 2025.
In a separate court before Magistrate Atifah Hazimah, Chia was also charged with obstructing police by allegedly changing the position of his son’s body.
He pleaded not guilty to this charge, framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
Chia also pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing the disappearance of evidence by disposing of his wife’s false nails.
This charge was framed under Section 201 of the Penal Code and read before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam.
Chia, represented by lawyer Bernard George, was not allowed bail by the courts.
The cases have been set for mention on March 17 pending post-mortem, DNA, chemical and toxicology test reports.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Sarah Siti Aisyah Mustapha Kamal, Nurul Fatihah Mohd Nizam and Siti Aishah Latif prosecuted in the cases.
