Johor couple pleads not guilty to attempted murder of husband

A housewife and an unemployed man denied trying to kill her husband by covering his face with a pillow in Johor Bahru last month.

JOHOR BAHRU: A housewife and an unemployed man have pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder the woman’s husband.

N. Egavalli, 46, and R. Kamala Sarna, 39, entered their pleas at the Sessions Court here before Judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee.

They are jointly accused of trying to kill G. Kumaresan, 48, by covering his face with a pillow in Taman Ehsan, Johor Bahru, around 9.30 pm on December 22.

The charge is framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34.

If convicted, they face imprisonment for up to 10 years and a possible fine.

Judge Mohd Zamir set bail at RM20,000 with two sureties for each accused.

He also imposed conditions prohibiting them from approaching the victim.

The court ordered the accused to surrender their passports and report to a police station monthly.

The case has been set for mention on February 3.

Deputy public prosecutor R. Nevina conducted the prosecution.
