The Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) is taking significant steps to address concerns surrounding Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) by forming a special committee dedicated to restoring the faith of the group's followers in the state. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi made this announcement, emphasizing that this initiative has already been approved at a MAINJ meeting and aims to help guide efforts in rebuilding the spiritual beliefs of GISBH followers in Johor.

The purpose of the committee extends beyond merely addressing spiritual concerns. It also seeks to coordinate the educational and welfare needs of the children associated with GISBH members. This includes managing their placements and ensuring that they receive appropriate aid and support. The menteri besar underscored that this comprehensive approach would involve various forms of assistance for children who may have been affected by the activities of the organization.

The decision comes in the wake of several key GISBH figures being arrested by the authorities during a large-scale crackdown on welfare homes operated by the organization. These homes had come under scrutiny for alleged abuse and exploitation. The government, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, launched "Op Global," a nationwide operation targeting the organization's activities, which led to significant arrests and rescues.

Onn Hafiz stated that the Johor state government remains vigilant in monitoring GISBH’s activities, stressing that further actions would be taken as needed. The authorities are closely investigating the group's activities to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved, particularly children.

"Op Global," which took place on September 20 and 21, involved coordinated efforts by the police, the Johor Islamic Religious Department’s (JAINJ) enforcement division, and the Social Welfare Department (JKM). The operation targeted eight of GISBH’s premises spread across Johor Baru, Kluang, Segamat, Kota Tinggi, and Mersing. As a result of the operation, 29 individuals were arrested, and 30 children and teenagers were rescued. These children and teenagers have since been placed under the care of JKM for a month, during which time their needs will be assessed and addressed.

In support of these children, MAINJ has allocated RM20,000 to JKM for clothing and textbooks, ensuring that they receive the necessary resources during their time under government care. Onn Hafiz reiterated that MAINJ will continue to enforce existing regulations and cooperate with the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) in conducting research, studies, and making informed decisions regarding GISBH’s status.

Furthermore, the menteri besar emphasized that the Johor government would take decisive action against any party found guilty of committing crimes against children or engaging in practices contrary to Islamic teachings. The protection of the faith and the welfare of vulnerable individuals, particularly children, are top priorities for the state government.

On a broader level, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also weighed in on the issue, stating that no individual or group involved in the GISBH investigation would be allowed to use race or religion as a shield if found guilty of child abuse or exploitation. He stressed the importance of holding all individuals accountable for their actions, particularly when they involve mistreatment or violation of human rights.

The "Op Global" operation, which spanned across Peninsular Malaysia, saw several GISBH-linked charitable homes raided. A total of 572 victims were rescued, and 359 members of GISBH, including key management personnel, were arrested. The government's crackdown reflects its commitment to addressing the exploitation of children and ensuring that no organization operates beyond the reach of the law.

The joint efforts of state and federal authorities underscore the seriousness with which the government is handling this matter, with the ultimate goal of protecting the public and maintaining the sanctity of Islamic practices in the country.
