Johor Immigration detains 20 undocumented workers in Mount Austin raid

THE Johor Immigration Department detained 20 undocumented foreign nationals during an enforcement operation at a building renovation site in Mount Austin here yesterday.

The arrests were made under Ops Kutip, an operation carried out by officers from the Johor Immigration Department’s Enforcement Division to detect violations of immigration laws.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said those detained were aged between 22 and 58, comprising 14 men and two women from China, as well as four men from Myanmar.

He said the offences detected included the employment of foreign nationals without valid documents and the misuse of social visit passes.

“During the raid, several of the foreign workers attempted to flee, but swift action by enforcement officers managed to prevent their escape,” he said in a statement issued here today.

Mohd Rusdi added that all those arrested, who are suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963, have been taken to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation and action. - February 7, 2026
