JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Immigration Department (JIM) detained 41 illegal immigrants for various offences during a targeted operation at several premises in Skudai.
Director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the 11 pm operation yesterday focused on business premises, areas frequented by foreign nationals, and other high-risk locations.
A total of 30 enforcement officers and personnel from the Johor JIM branch were involved in the intelligence-led raid.
“The raid followed intelligence gathering and continuous monitoring in the area,” Mohd Rusdi said in a statement today.
He explained that during the inspection, the illegal immigrants were found resting on the upper floor of business premises which had been converted into living quarters.
Some individuals attempted to evade inspection by fleeing, while others hid inside rooms during the operation.
The 41 detainees comprised 11 Indonesians and 30 Myanmar nationals, with ages ranging from 16 to 49 years old.
Mohd Rusdi confirmed the offences were committed under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including not possessing valid travel documents and overstaying.
All those detained have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot here for further investigation.
