Johor’s Road Transport Department issued 2,136 notices for road offences in a major operation, with 33 vehicles seized for serious safety violations
TANGKAK: The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 2,136 notices for various road offences since the start of the year.
The notices were issued following inspections of 12,510 vehicles across the state under the planned enforcement of Op Gempur Kenderaan Perdagangan.
Technical offences were the most common, with 555 cases recorded for violations like non-compliant registration plates, not wearing seatbelts, and using unsuitable lights.
Other offences included not having a Competent Driving Licence (CDL), no vocational licence, expired motor vehicle licence (LKM), no insurance, and carrying dangerous or overloaded goods.
A total of 1,305 vehicles faced action, with 33 of them seized.
The seized vehicles comprised 20 goods vehicles over 7,500 kg, four goods vehicles under 7,500 kg, seven worker buses, and two school buses.
Johor JPJ director Zulkarnain Yasin said all seized vehicles were found to have committed high-risk or unsafe offences and were deemed unfit for the road.
He stated that the level of awareness regarding road safety compliance, particularly among commercial vehicle operators, remains low.
“There are also those who commit offences like failing to possess a driving licence, failing to renew or having no LKM, and having no insurance protection,” he said.
The operation was assisted by the police and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
For the upcoming Chinese New Year and Ramadan periods, Zulkarnain said Johor JPJ will conduct operations as in previous years.
These operations aim to ensure smooth traffic flow and road user safety, especially in high-accident areas.
