JOHOR BARU, Oct 24 — Two driving school centre managers here were arrested yesterday by the Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of involvement with a bribery scandal into the compulsory computerised driving school tests.

The two suspects are married to each other; the 47-year-old man is an administrative manager and his 43-year-old wife is a marketing manager.

Both were detained at the Johor MACC office complex in Jalan Persiaran Tanjung here at about 7pm, under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

The latest arrest brings the total to five suspects who are in MACC custody to assist in investigations on alleged corrupt practices from candidates sitting for Part 1 of the Computer Test for Driving Licence.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias who confirmed the two arrests, said Part 1 of the Computer Test for Driving Licence is compulsory for those who want a driving licence.

“The test has been set as a condition to obtain a driver's licence and to learn and understand the rules as well as laws to make us a knowledgeable society when on the road,” he said in a statement today.

Johor MACC investigators are expanding their probe to include other driving centres in the state for the possibility that officials have received bribes from candidates.

It is understood that the ongoing probe has so far established that the bribes allegedly paid by the candidates were starting from RM400 to RM1,000 for a confirmed pass in Part 1 of the Computer Test for Driving Licence.

Last Sunday, Johor MACC investigators arrested three women for allegedly accepting bribes from driving school students sitting for their computer test.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 34, were arrested at the Johor MACC Office at about 9pm.

Two of the women are customer service officers at the Kota Tinggi branch of the Government Interactive Network Portal while the other is a clerk at a driving school centre.
