Johor Palace warns of AI-generated deepfake video impersonating King Sultan Ibrahim

THE Johor Royal Press Office (RPO) has warned the public of a deepfake video circulating on Facebook that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to falsely depict the face and voice of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

In a statement published on His Majesty’s official Facebook page today, the RPO revealed that the fraudulent video appears to feature the King promoting an investment scheme that promises high returns.

“The public is advised to be vigilant and not be easily influenced by these fake accounts, which are often used by scammers for fraudulent purposes on Facebook and other social media platforms,” Bernama cited the RPO saying.

The Royal Press Office further emphasised that impersonation and identity misuse constitute criminal offences.

“Strict action will be taken against those involved in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement read. - July 10, 2025
