JOHOR police have affirmed their readiness to cooperate with Singapore authorities in investigating a fraudulent online scheme falsely claiming to offer subsidised housing under a joint Malaysia-Singapore initiative.
Johor Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said on Friday that no police reports have been received in the state so far regarding the scam, which was highlighted earlier this week by Singapore’s police force.
"While no such case has been reported in Johor to date, Johor police will work closely with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) if required to assist in their investigation," he said in an official statement.
He added, "Close cooperation between Johor police and SPF is crucial in addressing cross-border crimes, including online fraud. The public is advised to remain cautious and not be easily swayed by offers of subsidies. Always take preventive steps to avoid falling victim."
Earlier, Singaporean media reported that the SPF had issued a warning to the public about a scam circulating online, involving what was falsely presented as the “Johor-Singapore Housing Subsidy Programme”.
According to the SPF, fake advertisements for the scheme claimed it was a bilateral initiative between the governments of Singapore and Johor, offering subsidised housing. The ads reportedly included fraudulent links directing users to counterfeit application portals.
Authorities on both sides of the border have since urged residents to verify the legitimacy of such claims through official government channels. - Sept 5, 2025
