Incumbent Bukit Permai state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor faces a four-cornered fight in the 16th Johor state election.

BATU PAHAT: Incumbent Bukit Permai state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor of Barisan Nasional (BN) is defending the seat in a four-cornered fight in the 16th Johor state election.

He is challenged by Mohamad Shafwan Ani of Pakatan Harapan (PH), M. Lina Manoh of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Muhammad Aidil Riduan Mohd Yusof of Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).

Returning officer Afzan Azhari announced the list of candidates at the nomination centre at Dewan Raya Putra, Bandar Putra here, after the nomination process closed at 10 am today.

Earlier, Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching arrived at the nomination centre at 8.26 am to accompany Mohamad Shafwan.

In the 2022 Johor state election, Mohd Jafni won the seat with a majority of 4,755 votes in a four-cornered contest.

The Election Commission has set early voting for the Johor election on July 7, while polling day is July 11.
