Johor polls: Police open 3 IPs as state election campaign remains under control

POLICE in Johor have opened three investigation papers following seven police reports lodged in connection with the ongoing Johor state election campaign, as authorities continue monitoring campaign activities and online content to maintain public order.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said one investigation paper has been opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which relates to mischief by fire or explosive substances.

A second investigation concerns an offence under Section 427 of the Penal Code, while another involves investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The latter provisions cover offences relating to acts with seditious tendencies and the improper use of network facilities or communication services.

Ab Rahaman said police had received a total of 420 permit applications from political parties as of 11.59pm on Sunday, with 414 approvals granted.

He added that 191 political campaign events had been held as of June 28, with every programme monitored by police officers to ensure compliance with election laws and permit conditions.

“The situation during the 16th Johor Election process is safe and controlled,” he said in a statement on Monday.

He added that Johor police continue to closely monitor social media platforms in cooperation with relevant enforcement agencies to detect the spread of fake news, misleading content and unverified information throughout the election period.

“Stern action will be taken against any party found to have violated the law which could disturb peace and order,” he said.

The latest update comes as authorities step up security and enforcement efforts throughout the state election campaign to ensure political activities are conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law. - June 29, 2026
