The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is urging residents nationwide to adopt the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application, which has recently been upgraded to version 2.0, as a tool to fight crime.
Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad, director of the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), emphasized PDRM's commitment to expanding the use of the VSP app, noting that it is currently underutilized.
"The VSP app has been available for quite some time, providing users with the ability to submit complaints and information. The app is equipped with multimedia features such as photos, videos, and GPS coordinates to accurately identify incident locations," Wan Hassan stated to reporters during the launch of a crime prevention carnival and the Fajar police beat base.
He also highlighted the addition of a panic button feature to the app, which ensures a swift response from on-duty police officers. Wan Hassan assured that PDRM patrol cars (MPVs) and motorcycle patrol units (URBs) would respond within 12 minutes of receiving a report or complaint through the VSP.
"PDRM operates over 3,000 MPVs and 1,800 URBs across the country to combat crime continuously. Through the VSP platform, we hope to foster collaboration between the community and PDRM in crime prevention efforts," he said.
Additionally, Wan Hassan expressed PDRM's openness to collaborating with government agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to implement joint crime prevention programs. This collaborative approach is seen as a crucial step in enhancing the effectiveness of crime prevention initiatives and ensuring community safety.
The VSP application serves as a powerful tool in the hands of the community, allowing for real-time reporting and rapid police response. By integrating advanced features such as multimedia submissions and GPS tracking, the app enhances the accuracy and efficiency of crime reporting. The panic button feature further empowers citizens by providing an immediate link to law enforcement in emergencies.
PDRM’s call to action is clear: for the VSP app to reach its full potential, it requires widespread adoption and active use by the public. By leveraging technology and fostering community collaboration, PDRM aims to create a safer environment for all residents. This initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in crime prevention and the pivotal role that technology can play in modern policing.
In conclusion, PDRM's efforts to promote the VSP application reflect a broader strategy to enhance public safety through innovation and partnership. By encouraging the community to actively participate in crime prevention, PDRM hopes to build a more secure and vigilant society.
