Joint Kaamatan Gawai ‘do’ in Kota Kinabalu

PENAMPANG: Some 600 members of the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Sarawak will gather at the 14th KCCI-DCCI Joint Kaamatan Gawai Celebration to be held in Kota Kinabalu from June 15-16.

The joint celebration, the first time after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be marked with the signing of a KCCI-DCCI Joint Resolution for the Prime Minister as well as Sabah Chief Minister and Sarawak Premier, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KCCI and DCCI for the setting up of a business joint venture.

KCCI President Datuk Ladislaus Maluda said the signings of the Joint Resolution and MoU would be held during a BIZ Talk at the Pacific Sutera Harbour on June 16, from 8 am to 12.30pm, to be witnessed by State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun as the guest of honour.

The Biz Talk, to be attended by about 200 KCCI and DCCI members, is part of the events to be held in conjunction with the joint celebration, he said, adding it is meant for the KCCI and DCCI members to share and learn from the business experiences during pre-movement control order (MCO), MCO and post-MCO periods.

Ladislaus said the Joint Resolution, which is derived from the BIZ Talk, would be presented to a representative of the Federal Government at the end of the event, adding the MoU to be signed is also the first of such which will bring the KCCI-DCCI relationship to a new height. “The MoU is also part of our KCCI-DCCI post-Covid recovery plan,” he during a press conference held at Wisma KCCI here Tuesday. Anthony, KCCI Vice President Stephen Sampil, Secretary-General Pius Jaua and Treasurer-General Petrus Chia were also present. Later in the evening of June 16, they will proceed to the 14th KCCI-DCCI Joint Kaamatan Gawai Dinner Celebration 2023 to be held at the Magellan Sutera Harbour, starting at 6 pm.

Ladislaus said Chief Minister Hajiji Noor is expected to attend this event which would be made merrier by cultural dance performances by the Era Budaya, Sabah and the Kumpulan Tingang Madang, Sarawak, as well as artists from Sabah and Sarawak.

Federal National Unity Minister and Kanowit Member of Parliament Datuk Aaron Ago anak Dagang, as well as other Sabah and Sarawak state leaders from Kadazandusun and Dayak communities, are also expected to be present. There will be a prize presentation by Deputy Chief Minister II cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam for the KCCI-DCCI Friendship Golf Tournament to be held at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club on June 15.

Ladislaus said the Friendship Golf Tournament this year would be different from previously because, for the first time, they would have the Challenge Trophy.

“For the first time since 2007, we will have the Challenge Trophy for this year’s tournament. This is to make it more meaningful,” he said, adding Dr Joachim would do the tee-off gimmick for this tournament at 7 am. A total of 80 golfers from KCCI and DCCI will take part in this tournament, which is an annual tradition for the joint celebration. “This is a significant joint celebration for us because apart from renewing the relationship between KCCI and DCCI, we also want to share our experiences, like how we went through Covid-19, how it affects our businesses and so on,” he said.

His counterpart, DCCI President Dato’ Allan Keripin Nangkai and Supreme Council members will also attend the joint celebration.
