Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Parks and the Sabah Wildlife Department have stepped up joint patrols and surveillance following the sighting of a crocodile off Pantai B, Pulau Sapi, in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park on Oct 5.
Tourism operators conducting water activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, and sea walking have been instructed to inspect activity areas beforehand, while solo swimming and snorkelling have been prohibited.
Warning signs have been erected across affected areas, alongside continuous safety announcements by lifeguards and safety briefings issued to all tourism operators within the park.
A joint special tracking operation is currently underway with netting deployed in high-risk zones, closely monitored to avoid trapping marine life such as sea turtles, to enable the reptile's capture and relocation.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the ministry takes the sighting seriously and prioritises visitor safety, urging the public to fully cooperate with park officials and immediately report any further sightings.
