PETALING JAYA: An application for a joint trial in the Sessions Court has been filed by the prosecution in former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s power abuse and money laundering case.

According to a Free Malaysia Today (FMT) report, deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed judge Azura Alwi during case management today (May 26) that the application is to consolidate four power abuse and three money laundering charges the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president is facing.

The former Prime Minister’s lead counsel, Hisyam Teh Poh Teik has requested time to reply to the prosecutor’s application.

Meanwhile, the defence has been ordered by the court to submit its affidavit in reply by June 30, and for the prosecution to respond to the defence by July 14.

The court has fixed August 4 for case mention.

Muhyiddin was represented by K Kumaraendran, Rosli Dahlan, Chetan Jethwani and Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who is also the PAS secretary-general.

The Perikatan National (PN) chairman was charged with four counts of corruption involving RM32.7 million under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, including three counts of money laundering amounting to RM200 million.

The 76-year-old faces up to a 20 year jail term and a fine of not less than five times the amount misappropriated.
