Kota Kinabalu: A joint visit involving the Sabah Government to North Kalimantan is scheduled next week to explore a project expected to significantly impact local communities.

Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu, Noorman Effendi said the initiative is related to the development of the blue economy between Sabah and North Kalimantan.

He said the project would involve communities living along border and coastal areas, including farmers, fishermen and those residing near mangrove regions, who are expected to receive training.

He added that the collaboration is expected to generate substantial income through activities such as carbon trading, with outputs to be marketed to developed countries and airline companies.

Noorman said this during a Hari Raya open house at his residence here on Saturday, where he also noted that the presence of Sabah leaders reflected strong and enduring ties between Indonesia and Malaysia.
