When we hear the word FIT, most of us immediately think about the body.

Gym.

Running.

Muscles.

Weight loss.

Six packs.

But I believe we have misunderstood what being FIT really means.

You can have a strong body and an exhausted mind.

You can look healthy outside but be struggling emotionally inside.

You can exercise every morning but eat without discipline.

You can be successful in your career but have no time for yourself, your family or your health.

So perhaps it is time we redefine FIT.

That is what #JomFit is about.

Body FIT.

Mind FIT.

Eating FIT.

Healthy FIT.

Lifestyle FIT.

Not perfection.

Not competition.

Not looking like somebody else.

It is about becoming a healthier, stronger and more disciplined version of yourself.

⸻

AGE IS NOT THE EXCUSE

One of the most common sentences we hear is:

“I’m getting old already.”

Yes, we all age.

But ageing and giving up are two very different things.

At 20, your body may forgive many of your bad habits.

At 30, responsibilities begin taking over.

At 40, the body starts reminding you about the years of neglect.

At 50, 60 and beyond, the decisions you made earlier may begin showing their consequences.

But whatever your age, there is still something you can do.

Maybe you cannot run like you did at 25.

Walk.

Maybe you cannot lift what you once lifted.

Start lighter.

Maybe you have been inactive for years.

Start slowly.

Fitness is not about proving anything to anyone.

It is about doing what your body can safely do today—and gradually improving from there.

The important thing is to START.

⸻

BODY FIT

Your body carries you through your entire journey of life.

Yet many of us maintain our cars better than we maintain ourselves.

We service the car.

Check the oil.

Check the tyres.

Monitor strange sounds.

But when our own body gives us warning signs, we sometimes ignore them.

Being Body FIT doesn’t necessarily mean spending two hours in a gym.

Walk.

Stretch.

Cycle.

Swim.

Play badminton.

Play football or hockey.

Take the stairs.

Garden.

Dance.

Move.

The best exercise is often the one you enjoy enough to continue doing.

Consistency beats intensity that lasts only two weeks.

⸻

MIND FIT

This is perhaps one of the most neglected areas of fitness.

Your mind also needs exercise, recovery and protection.

A FIT mind doesn’t mean you never experience stress, sadness, disappointment or fear.

It means developing healthier ways of dealing with them.

Read.

Learn something new.

Have meaningful conversations.

Spend time away from your phone.

Rest.

Laugh.

Travel.

Listen to music.

Spend time with people who give you positive energy.

And sometimes, simply sit quietly.

We live in an age where our phones are constantly charged while our minds are constantly drained.

#JomFit must therefore include mental fitness.

Because a healthy body carrying an exhausted mind is not complete wellness.

⸻

EATING FIT

Eating FIT doesn’t mean starving yourself.

It doesn’t mean you can never enjoy nasi lemak, roti canai, teh tarik or your favourite dessert again.

Food is part of our culture, celebrations, families and memories.

The key is awareness.

What are you eating?

How much are you eating?

How often are you eating it?

Portion matters.

Balance matters.

Nutrition matters.

Water matters.

And discipline matters.

You don’t have to eat perfectly every single day.

But your everyday habits eventually become your health story.

Enjoy your food—but learn to control your food rather than allowing food to control you.

⸻

HEALTHY FIT

There is another important part of #JomFit.

Know your numbers.

Don’t wait until something goes seriously wrong before paying attention to your health.

Regular health screening appropriate to your age, history and medical advice can help identify problems earlier.

Know your blood pressure.

Understand your blood sugar.

Understand your cholesterol.

Pay attention to your sleep.

Notice changes in your body.

Speak to qualified healthcare professionals when something doesn’t feel right.

Being proactive about health is far better than waiting for a crisis to force change upon us.

⸻

LIFESTYLE FIT

This brings everything together.

Fitness isn’t something you do between 7:00am and 8:00am.

It is how you live the remaining 23 hours too.

How much do you sleep?

How much water do you drink?

How much do you move?

How do you manage stress?

What do you eat?

Who surrounds you?

How much time do you spend sitting?

How much time do you give yourself?

How often do you laugh?

How often do you disconnect from work?

Lifestyle FIT means creating a life that supports your wellbeing instead of constantly fighting against it.

⸻

DISCIPLINE OVER MOTIVATION

Everyone loves motivation.

But motivation comes and goes.

Some mornings you will wake up excited.

Other mornings you won’t feel like doing anything.

That is where discipline takes over.

You don’t need to exercise perfectly.

You need to exercise consistently.

You don’t need one perfect healthy meal.

You need better eating habits over time.

You don’t need to transform your entire life tomorrow morning.

Start with one change.

Then another.

Then another.

Small improvements repeated consistently can eventually create major transformation.

Focus + Discipline + Consistency = Progress.

⸻

DON’T COMPETE WITH OTHER PEOPLE

This is important.

Social media has made us compare our bodies, careers, lifestyles and achievements with everyone else.

Stop.

Your journey is yours.

Your starting point is different.

Your genetics are different.

Your responsibilities are different.

Your age is different.

Your circumstances are different.

The person you should compete with is the person you were yesterday.

Walk another 500 steps.

Drink another glass of water.

Sleep a little earlier.

Reduce one unhealthy habit.

Exercise one extra day.

Make one better choice.

That is progress.

⸻

JOM. LET’S MOVE.

Jom is such a simple Malaysian word.

It means:

Come. Let’s go. Let’s do this together.

And perhaps that is exactly what health needs.

Not another complicated programme.

Not another impossible promise.

Not another 30-day miracle.

A movement.

A community.

A lifestyle.

Young or old.

Big or small.

Beginner or athlete.

Office worker or retiree.

Everyone can participate at their own level.

Today you might walk 1 kilometre.

Tomorrow perhaps 2.

Today you might change one meal.

Next month perhaps your whole eating pattern improves.

Today you might spend 15 minutes exercising.

Eventually it becomes part of who you are.

Because the objective isn’t simply to GET FIT.

The objective is to LIVE FIT.

Body FIT.

Mind FIT.

Eating FIT.

Healthy FIT.

Lifestyle FIT.

Don’t wait for Monday.

Don’t wait for January.

Don’t wait until the doctor tells you that you have to change.

Your health journey can begin with one decision.

Today.

#JomFit

Your age doesn’t decide when you start.

Your decision does.
