With more than 40,000 runners, the KLSCM 2026 is making a conscious effort to help raise funds for many of Malaysia's charities, focusing on caring for serving the less fortunate. This initiative is a community effort cannot be successful without of support from runners, corporations, media & other organizations. My eldest son, Mohammad Farouq Ariffin and his younger brother, Fariz Azmir signed up for the Run For A Reason (REAR) program in support of the event held on 03-04 October with flagged off at Dataran Merdeka, KL. To help ensure a safe race experience, IHH Healthcare Malaysia provides comprehensive medical coverage from race pack collection to race days. This include the mobile medical responders & medical stations, supported by its healthcare professionals.

I understand from Fariz that “Through the RFAR charity program, the event raises awareness and funds for health-related beneficiaries such as Hopis Malaysia (Providing free palliative and end-of-life care) & the IJN (National Heart Institute) Foundation (cardiovascular health). Organizers actively monitor environmental & health conditions (such as regional haze), adjusting race programming, to protect vulnerable participants while advising runners with underlying health conditions to evaluate personal risks. Public Running Clinics led by professionals coaches focusing on training plans.”

I learned from the organizers, the future of the KLSCM centers on raising to a premier regional stage, advancing aggressive eco-friendly initiatives & securing its legacy through extended corporate backing. The event continues to elevate Malaysia on the global stage as the first country & only World Athletics Elite Label road race, drawing elite international competitors from over 70 countries. What I like best is their progressive eco-sustainability blueprint that the organizers are actively transforming marathon into a greener race by systematically addressing environmental impacts that transitioning away from single-use plastics & paper cups by rolling out refillable water options at all hydration stations & working alongside sustainable gear partners to manufacture event t-shirts.
