
Jordanian air defences intercepted five Iranian missiles as fighting between the United States and Iran briefly flared up again overnight, Jordan's military said on Wednesday morning.
The operation on Tuesday evening resulted in falling debris in the Azraq region but caused no casualties or damage, the military was quoted as saying by the Petra news agency.
Azraq is located in eastern Jordan not far from the border with Iraq. The region is home to a military base where the US has reportedly stationed fighter jets.
According to the New York Times, dozens of US military fighter jets, cargo planes, drones, and helicopters were stationed at the site shortly before the US and Israel began attacking Iran on February 28.
The US and Iran launched fresh mutual attacks in the Gulf region overnight, further straining a fragile ceasefire in place since April, as well as efforts by US President Donald Trump to end the war.
The latest US attacks on Iran came in response to Iranian forces shooting down a US military helicopter off Oman, according to Trump.
Iran retaliated by attacking US bases in the Gulf region as well as in Jordan, according to Iranian media.
Kuwait activated its air defences and air raid sirens sounded again in Bahrain early on Wednesday, after Iran said it had carried out a drone attack on the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain overnight.
Early on Wednesday, the US CENTCOM command responsible for the region declared the US "self-defense strikes" targeting Iran as "completed."
