Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan is stunned at the Alexis Mac Allister fee.
Liverpool have secured the signing of the Argentine midfielder for a fee of around 35 million from Brighton.
Mac Allister had a release clause in his contract that meant Brighton could not secure a higher fee.
TalkSPORT pundit Jordan stated on Tuesday morning: I don't think Brighton have particularly tied him up have they.
What did they achieve (by getting him to sign a new deal)?"
You've got a World Cup winner coming back. They tied him up to be able to give him to Liverpool at a (fee) properly below market value. I imagine (Brighton) will be a little bit disappointed with the situation."
Jordan added: Because it's happening rather quickly, I thought that we'd got Mac Allister tied up in a situation where someone was going to have to pay top money for him. Top money.
I'd have wanted more for him. I want these big clubs that come along and take everyone else's vision and don't do it themselves, to have to pay the prerequisite price for it."
