LABUAN: The Sabah Ports and Harbours Department (JPDS) collected more than RM40 million in revenue in 2025, up from over RM39 million the year before, reflecting steady growth in the State’s maritime-related income.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said JPDS was among the newer departments placed under his ministry following the consolidation of transport portfolios.

He said the department plays a key role as a regulator of water traffic and public jetty development, making it a consistent contributor to Sabah’s state revenue.

Ewon said JPDS oversees water traffic within port limits, rivers, coastal and tidal areas, while also providing and maintaining facilities such as government wharves, public jetties, barter trade jetties and passenger terminals.

He was speaking after a visit to Labuan JPDS, where he and ministry officials were briefed by JPDS director Maswandie Maimon on the department’s current operations and future plans across Sabah.
