THE Road Transport Department (JPJ) has denied a viral social media claim that the government plans to allow Rohingya to obtain driving licences in Malaysia.
In a statement today, JPJ said it had lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to facilitate an investigation and appropriate action over the dissemination of the content.
It said the claim, published through a Facebook account made to resemble an official news source under the headline “JPJ Cadang Benarkan Rohingya Ambil Lesen Memandu”, (“JPJ Proposes Allowing Rohingya to Obtain Driving Licences”) was false.
“JPJ takes seriously the actions of any party that produces, modifies or disseminates content using the department's name, identity or images in a manner that could mislead the public and undermine JPJ's credibility,” it said.
Checks on social media found that the same claim had also been shared by other users, accompanied by an image showing several JPJ officers at a press conference.
The image was published with the false headline, prompting various reactions from social media users.
JPJ advised the public not to disseminate information whose authenticity could not be verified. - September 24, 2026
