JPJ Issued 69,000 Summons In Oct, 551 Commercial Vehicles Seized

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a total of 69,379 summons notices during a nationwide operation on commercial vehicles held from Oct 1 to Oct 31.

According to JPJ Senior Enforcement Director, Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, a total of 526,215 vehicles were inspected during the period resulting in 551 commercial vehicles being seized and 133,714 notices issued.

He further added that many of the seized vehicles failed to meet roadworthiness requirements under the Road Transport Act 1987, the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987 and the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

During the month-long operation, JPJ had inspected 185,340 goods vehicles, 24,208 public service vehicles and 316,667 other vehicles. The most common offences included notices under JPJ notice (P) 22 (100,577 cases) and Section 61(1) inspection orders (13,402 cases).

Additionally, 10,277 notices were issued for vehicle prohibition due to weighing orders, and 4,533 notices were issued for overloaded vehicles.

This operation which was jointly conducted with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) also involved drug tests on 1,713 suspected motorists. Of these, 79 drivers, mostly aged 26 to 35, tested positive mainly for methamphetamine.
