The Road Transport Department (JPJ) in Kelantan has seized nearly 100 luxury vehicles since March under Ops Luxury, an enforcement operation targeting owners who failed to renew their Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), commonly known as road tax.
JPJ Kelantan director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said brands seized included Toyota Alphard, Toyota Vellfire, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche.
Some Vehicles Unrenewed For Three Years
Misuari said checks found some of the seized vehicles had not had their road tax renewed for as long as three years.
He said Ops Luxury was launched in March as part of JPJ Kelantan’s effort to improve road law compliance among luxury vehicle owners, speaking to reporters during a separate operation targeting foreign drivers and commercial vehicles at the JPJ enforcement station in Kuala Krai.
42 Vehicles Seized In May
JPJ Kelantan reported a similar operation in May, when it seized 42 luxury vehicles, including a Porsche 911 GT3, a Porsche Panamera, and a BMW 528i Limousine. Of those cases, 35 involved expired road tax and 31 involved lapsed insurance.
If your road tax has lapsed, your insurance may also be affected, since a valid road tax is often required for a claim to be processed. You can renew your road tax through the MyJPJ app, JPJ counters, or Pos Malaysia branches. Even if your car isn’t a Porsche, JPJ still checks.
