SHAH ALAM, Dec 9 - A taxi tout was arrested by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) yesterday as part of an enforcement operation at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2.
In a Facebook post, Selangor JPJ said officers detained a Perodua Bezza driver after he allegedly approached two Malaysians to offer them a ride from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 for RM60, payable upon arrival.
The vehicle was seized for investigation.
Following the arrest, the department issued a warning to the public to be aware of unlicensed e-hailing drivers, commonly known as touts, as such illegal services pose significant safety risks and threaten legitimate transport providers.
Selangor JPJ said anyone caught offering unauthorised transport services faces penalties under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010, including up to five years in prison, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both.
Abetters can also be charged under Section 243(1) of the same law.
“Use only authorised transport options, either through the official service counters at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, or by booking rides on registered e-hailing platforms, to ensure safety and avoid falling prey to illegal operators,” Selangor JPJ said today.
