So, recently, a foodpanda delivery rider who had his motorcycle seized due to his road tax and insurance expiring months before. Following this, the man was seen walking by the roadside in order to keep up with his deliveries.

Soon after, an influencer, AisarKhaledd, took pity on the man and decided to purchase a new motorcycle for him.

Throughout all of this, many were calling out the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) for not being lenient with the delivery rider and giving him a chance by allowing him to keep his motorcycle with the condition that he renews his road tax and insurance by a deadline.

Since then, JPJ has responded by explaining that they can’t be lenient as the man’s road tax and insurance had been expired for 7 months already, and that if it was for a much shorter period, they would have considered leniency. The Pak Leman & Mak Tijah Facebook page recently shared that response.

JPJ’s response was prompted by a local cartoonist who had tagged them to ask them where their consideration was.

If it’s a month or 2 months, Insyaallah, we could have made considerations. But this is 7 months, brother. If there was an accident within these 7 months, what cartoon character would you do to foster the importance of road tax and insurance for the safety of other road users?” JPJ replied.

And additionally, if they were to be lenient with the delivery rider, imagine the amount of people who would then ask for the same leniency.

What do you think? Should JPJ have been lenient with the delivery rider? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
