Genting Simon Sdn Bhd unveiled an ambitious plan to deploy 500 EV chargers at Johor Premium Outlets (JPO), positioning it as Southeast Asia’s largest fast-charging EV hub.

This initiative, once fully operational, aims to meet the growing demand with a network of DC chargers capable of outputs ranging from 280kW to 1MW. This will also be Southeast Asia’s first publicly accessible 1MW charging hub.

The project as we had highlighted previously was initially spearheaded by chargEV and DC Handal as the charge point operators (CPO). The charging infrastructure at JPO is designed to be future proof and support a wide range of EV models.

In addition to the charging facilities, the initiative will see the electrification of JPO’s fleet of shuttle buses. The EV Bus Hub will facilitate sustainable transport, connecting the outlet to Johor Bahru checkpoints and other key transit hubs for the convenience of both local and international visitors.

To further support electric mobility, Genting Simon is partnering with GoCar and drivEV to provide hourly and daily EV rentals. This will offer visitors greater flexibility in their travel options while reinforcing the outlet’s commitment to sustainability.

Jean Marie Pin Harry, President and COO of Genting Simon, emphasised the importance of encouraging EV adoption. With over 4.4 million vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore last year, the initiative aligns with the nations Twelfth Malaysia Plan, Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint and supports the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone sustainability goals.
