Judge orders release of the $5.8 million payment Trump owes E. Jean Carroll

E. Jean Carroll will receive nearly $5.8 million from Donald Trump after a federal judge ordered payments from a court-monitored escrow account.

The order came after the Supreme Court rejected Trump's request to appeal a jury's verdict finding him liable for sexual abuse and defamation.

In a late-night filing on Tuesday, Trump’s lawyers said Carroll should wait until the Supreme Court “fully” decides whether to rehear the president’s attempt to overturn the verdict, otherwise, he faces an “unrecoverable loss” of millions of dollars that will cause him "irreparable harm.”

The Supreme Court had already rejected Trump's appeal last month and has indicated it has not accepted his latest filing for a rehearing.

This payment is distinct from a separate $83 million defamation verdict against Trump, which he is also appealing, with the Justice Department attempting to intervene on his behalf.
