The Spaniard, after resigning from Wolves in August, is eager to remain in England and in the Premier League.
However, AS says Lopetegui has rejected an attempt from Palace to open talks about succeeding Roy Hodgson as manager.
Just as with Wolves, Lopetegui had concerns about Palace's ambitions and spending power.
Former Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner is now favourite to succeed Hodgson at Selhurst Park.
