Kota Kinabalu: Persatuan Suri dan Anggota Wanita Perkhidmatan Awam (Puspanita) plays an important role in improving the effectiveness of the public service delivery system, including spreading the government’s policies and wishes directly to the people.
The Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Datuk Hajah Juliah Salag, said this included all the State government’s plans and initiatives contained in the Development Plan for Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ).
“Because some members of Puspanita are civil servants and government policy implementers, they, therefore, play an important role in delivering all State government policies and initiatives down to the grassroots level.
“I also suggest Puspanita to expand cooperation or strategic alliances with various parties, whether government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the corporate sectors,” she said in conjunction with the 40th Puspanita Sabah anniversary celebrations at the Grand Ballroom, Magellan Sutera, here, last Sunday.

Read more In the context of empowering women, Juliah, who is also Sabah Puspanita patron, said members need to acquire and expand knowledge, polish potential and talent in addition to improving leadership.
“I believe that the attitude of working together, being far-sighted and trusting each other should also be used as an important core by every member in ensuring that Puspanita Sabah is respected and becomes an example to other organisations.
“Hopefully a programme or event like this can be brought to other districts to give them the opportunity to implement the program while appreciating Puspanita members in the district more.
“I also ask all members to work with sincerity, integrity and stay away from corruption no matter where you are. Take care of the good name of the association and the ministries, departments and agencies where each one works,” she said.
Meanwhile, she said the ceremony was not only to celebrate Puspanita Sabah’s 40th anniversary but also as a platform to bring together members from all over the State in addition to appreciating members in making activities successful.
“I am very proud of the achievements. One of the successes I have seen is the construction of Wisma Puspanita in Tanjung Aru where this building is used by members as a centre for meetings, small-scale celebrations and others.
“A district chairperson also transformed a government house into a Puspanita building. Some Puspanitas even have their own cafes,” he said.
Other achievements of over four decades in Sabah include the 2008 Outstanding Branch Award at the National Level, the 2013 (State) Performing Branch Award, the 2017 Outstanding Branch Award, the 2022 Most Active Puspanita Branch Award on Social Media and the Highest Performing Branch Award 2023.
