Over the weekend, Malaysians were shocked by the news of a young, specialist doctor allegedly taking her own life due to workplace bullying. Following this, the medical officers’ non-governmental organization (NGO), Hartal Doktor Kontrak called for MOH to implement anti-bullying policies to disallow such incidents from happening again.

However, it appears that Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, has already spoken out about this.

Taking to his X page, the Health Minister mentioned that Dr Tay Tien Yaa’s death requires further investigation and emphasised that he does not tolerate bullying at MOH facilities.

He wrote, “Malaysia Day greetings! The death of Dr. Tay Tien Yaa must be further investigated. I have had ZERO TOLERANCE towards bullying since 2018 and shall remain steadfast on this policy (I’ve had a few cases in hand). All MOH staff deserve a SAFE & JUST working environment.”

“JUST STOP IT!”

He went on to thank those who have expressed their concern about bullying and urged bullies to cease their cruel activities.

“Lest you’ve forgotten what action I took in my first term, please Google it. I understand this toxic work culture still persists, so PERPETRATORS JUST STOP IT!” he added.

It definitely is high time that the authorities implement strict policies to prevent such incidents from happening again.
