It’s no secret that there are road users who don’t actually have self-awareness or know the ethics of sharing the road with others.

But, does causing a nuisance on the road warrant violence?

The #UpdateInfo Twitter page recently showcased how a motorcyclist kicked and caused a cyclist to fall onto the road because the cyclist was blocking the road and causing a traffic jam behind him.

They wrote, “Why did he have to kick the kid?”

In the video showcased, the cyclist could be seen cycling by the side of a narrow road while other vehicles had to move slowly behind him as there was not enough space for them to pass. Not realising that he was causing a jam behind him, the cyclist kept on cycling where he was rather than move closer to the side.

Suddenly, a motorcyclist rode over from the back and kicked the cyclist, causing him to fall onto the ground.

The motorcyclist then rode away like nothing happened.

Why does violence have to be the answer?

While they understand the motorcyclist’s irritation towards the cyclist, many believe he could have just told the cyclist to move closer to the side as he was holding up traffic, rather than kicking him.

“Is it so hard to be a good person? You could have rode beside him and told him to move to the side, why did you have to kick him? Is it really so much fun to do bad things like that? Without a bit of sympathy.”

“He’s angry because the cyclist is causing the road to become jammed. The road is narrow, and there are many cars and motorcycles, it’s not suitable for bicycles. Even more so if they’re the type to cycle leisurely. But, there’s no need to kick him. It is enough to honk and tell him off.”

“Just use your words lah, stupid.”

Do you think the motorcyclist was in the right to kick the cyclist or could he have easily used his words to get the cyclist to move? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
