Kabang Water Intake upgrade 94pc done, 21-day push

PAPAR: The Kabang Water Intake Upgrading Project has reached 94pc physical progress, with the remaining critical works being expedited under a 21-day Acceleration Plan.

Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the project, which began on March 10, 2025, would increase the intake capacity from nine million litres to 30 million litres per day.

The upgraded intake will provide an alternative raw water source for the Limbahau Water Treatment Plant and Emergency Water Supply Scheme plant when the Limbahau intake is affected by salinity, turbidity or excessive ammonia levels.

Armizan, who is also Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, said this after visiting the project with Deputy Chief Minister and Works and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam on Tuesday.

He said the remaining works included the intake structure wall, pump installation, pipe connections, testing and commissioning, with temporary suspension of the existing Kabang intake required during the acceleration works.

Armizan said supply disruptions could occur if raw water from the Limbahau intake became unsuitable for treatment during the temporary closure, with water tankers and static tanks to be deployed to affected areas if necessary.
