Kanye West’s Russia show runs into more problems

  • Kanye West’s upcoming shows in St Petersburg have been left in limbo after the Russian venue announced that no contract had ever been signed.
  • However, as The Moscow Times reports, the venue announced earlier today that the shows “cannot take place” because rental contracts had not been signed by the show’s organizer, Say Agency. That statement came despite the venue previously promoting the concerts.
  • Show organizer Say Agency denied canceling the concerts, saying contracts would be finalized soon and that West had already received a $17.7 million advance.
  • If the performances occur, West would become the biggest international star to perform in Russia since the country invaded Ukraine.
  • The rapper has faced widespread tour disruptions recently, including blocked shows in Switzerland and the United Kingdom over his past antisemitic comments. West previously apologized for his remarks in a Wall Street Journal advertisement, attributing his behavior to untreated bipolar-1 disorder.
