Kota Kinabalu: A two-day River Festival was held in conjunction with the World River Day in Kg Sodomon and Kg Matambai in Kapayan, here, to promote the invaluable role of rivers in sustaining life on earth and the urgent need to protect this lifeline for future generations.
The festival, held from Sept 23-24, was jointly organised by the Kapayan Assemblywoman’s Office, Sodomon village security and development committee (JKKK) and Matambai JKKK.
“I have made a commitment that the World River Day celebration organized for the first time in the Kapayan Constituency be held every year, and I hope that all the JKKK within the Kapayan Constituency as well as the surrounding communities of Kapayan will cooperate,” said Jannie.
“My recommendation to the concerned parties is that all Village Heads and JKKK in Kapayan will be empowered to report those who are found throwing garbage into the river.
