The Kapit District Council (KDC) tower is poised to become a beacon of connectivity with the introduction of 5G technology on June 15, heralding a new era of digital empowerment for approximately 30,000 residents within the district.

Federal Deputy Digital Minister, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, revealed that the groundwork for this transformative initiative has already been laid by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), which will transport its infrastructure from Kuala Lumpur to Kapit.

"We are collaborating closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the telecommunications company to ensure the seamless installation of the network cables on the KDC tower. The coverage area is projected to extend up to 5 kilometers in radius," stated Datuk Wilson during his presence at the Kapit Division’s vibrant 'Pengerami Mantar Gawai Dayak 2024' celebration.

Highlighting the significance of this endeavor for the hinterlands like Kapit, he emphasized that the enhanced internet speed facilitated by 5G would significantly streamline administrative operations within the division.

"While 4G coverage exists in Kapit, its strength leaves much to be desired. The deadline for the completion of 5G installation is set for June 15, with efforts underway to expedite the process," he affirmed.

In addition to Kapit, efforts are underway to extend the benefits of 5G to Belaga, given its status as a town with vital amenities like a hospital. Datuk Wilson underscored the imperative of addressing the limitations posed by existing 4G coverage in facilitating efficient service delivery.

"Belaga, akin to Bakun and Murum, boasts abundant hydroelectric energy reserves, making it a prime candidate for digital transformation," he added, elucidating the broader vision of leveraging technology to propel growth across diverse landscapes.

The momentous occasion was graced by the presence of Works Minister and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who echoed the sentiment of embracing technological advancements as a catalyst for progress.

As the countdown to the deployment of 5G in Kapit gains momentum, anticipation mounts among residents, businesses, and policymakers alike, all poised to reap the manifold benefits of enhanced connectivity and digital innovation.
