The Health Department will celebrate the 10 anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), which was launched on June 9, 2016 with the aim to provide fixed day, assured, comprehensive and quality ante-natal care services to pregnant women, particularly during the 2 and 3 trimester of the pregnancy.
Special PMSMA sessions will be held at 19 facilities in the district including District Civil Hospital, Sub-District Hospitals SDHs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and first referral units (FRUs).
Besides, Ayushman Arogya Shivirs will be organised at around 80 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) in the district on Tuesday for community mobilisation activities through identification, counselling, and mobilisation of eligible pregnant women, particularly high-risk pregnancies (HRPs), for participation in PMSMA sessions at higher health facilities, said Dr Poonam Chaudhary, Civil Surgeon, Karnal.
She emphasised that good ante natal check-up is the key foundation to good ante natal period and delivery of a healthy baby.
AAMs will screen the ANCs and the HRPs & refer them to higher centres for management. ASHA and ANMs will ensure that every HRP old and new identified must visit the nearest FRU for management. Any emergency complication must be immediately referred to the nearest functional FRU for emergency management by utilizing services of referral transport. Already identified HRP to be mobilised directly to the nearest Functional FRU, Dr Chaudhary added.
She maintained that during the past decade, the PMSMA has played a major role in early identification of high risk pregnancies and their management.
Also under the extended PMSMA, name-based tracking and follow-up of identified high-risk pregnancies (HRPs) is carried out until delivery and for 45 days postpartum. On the occasion of the completion of 10 years of PMSMA, a nationwide observance of “10 Years of PMSMA” will be held across the state, she added.
Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Shashi Garg said that PMSMA will be celebrated in its true spirit, and it will be ensured that every HRP attending PMSMA camps is provided with a full complement of tests. Details of each beneficiary will also be shared with the concerned AAM for follow-up.
