With the aim of strengthening investigations in road accident cases, ensuring timely assistance to victims and promoting technology-driven processes, a one-day training programme on the Electronic Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) portal was organised at the conference hall of the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Karnal Range, on Tuesday.

The programme was chaired by Karnal Range IGP Ashok Kumar, while District Rollout Manager (DRM), NIC-Karnal, Swati Gupta, briefed DSPs, nodal officers and investigating officers (IOs) about the complete process of online registration of such cases. DSP Karnal (HQ) Sandeep Kumar, DSP Kalayat Rohtash Kumar, DSP Traffic Suresh Kumar, and 60 IOs — 20 from each district of Karnal, Kaithal and Panipat — participated in the programme.

Addressing the participants, Gupta explained in detail the functioning and significance of the e-DAR portal. She said that digital platforms have been developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to improve road safety, facilitate scientific analysis of road accidents and ensure quicker compensation and assistance to accident victims.

She informed the officers that under this system, police personnel upload photographs and videos from accident sites, along with latitude and longitude data, onto the portal, which generates a unique identification number for each accident. This enables better coordination among various departments involved in accident-related processes and helps ensure timely support for victims.

The training programme covered all technical and operational aspects of the portal in depth. Officers were made aware of the procedures for data entry, documentation, accident reporting and coordination with other agencies. Queries and doubts raised by the IOs were also addressed to ensure they do not face difficulties while conducting future investigations.

IGP Kumar said that the primary objective of the training was to equip the IOs with comprehensive knowledge of digital platforms so that accident victims can receive immediate medical assistance and government support.

Gupta also informed the police officials about various government schemes integrated with this project, including the Rahveer Scheme, under which any person who helps road accident victims reach a hospital within the “golden hour” is awarded a cash prize.
