The police have launched a probe into the alleged procurement of wheat brought from Uttar Pradesh in the names of local farmers at grain markets in the district.
The police have sought procurement records and CCTV footage from the grain markets of Karnal, Kunjpura and Indri, besides the Biana sub-yard. Three FIRs have been registered against seven arhtiyas. The police are examining how irregularities took place despite stringent norms introduced this season. “Records and CCTV footage will be verified,” said SP Narender Bijarniya.
DC Dr Anand Kumar Sharma had constituted monitoring teams and set up two nakas along the Haryana-UP border with round-the-clock deployment of duty magistrates and police personnel.
An inquiry team headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahul Raiya was also formed to investigate the matter. Based on the ADC’s inquiry report, licences of 13 arhtiyas were suspended — four in Karnal grain market, six in Indri and three in the Biana sub-yard. Officials also sent back several tractor-trailers after verification by patwaris at the Gharaunda grain market.
