Kashmir Medical College in Srinagar is being developed with state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced medical technology, a move expected to significantly strengthen healthcare services and medical education in the Valley.

The institution has been equipped with modern laboratories, digital learning systems, smart classrooms and upgraded healthcare facilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials associated with the project said the college aims to provide quality medical education while expanding access to advanced and affordable healthcare services for the public.

The college is expected to offer students extensive practical exposure through modern diagnostic and treatment equipment, enabling hands-on training in contemporary medical practices. It is also expected to reduce pressure on existing hospitals and medical colleges by expanding healthcare infrastructure and increasing medical education capacity.

Speaking to media, Dean and Principal of Kashmir Medical College, Prof Nazir Ahmad, described the institution as a landmark achievement for the region. “This is the first medical college here. It is a matter of pride for me that I served as its first superintendent and am now its first Principal and Dean,” he said.

Ahmad said the college is preparing for inspection by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and expects to secure the necessary approvals soon. “We hope to complete the NMC inspection during June and July and receive the Letter of Permission. We plan to admit 150 MBBS students and are working towards developing this hospital into a super-speciality institution,” he added.

Highlighting technological advancements at the college, Dr Syed Mubashir said modern facilities are being introduced across specialised disciplines. “We have already established the departments and are now bringing in advanced technologies in cosmetology, dermatology, surgery and aesthetics. Our goal is to provide affordable healthcare without compromising on technology,” he said.

Residents have welcomed the development, expressing hope that it will improve access to advanced medical services in the region. “This facility will be extremely beneficial because of its modern technology and range of services. It has the potential to become one of the leading medical institutions in the region,” local resident Feroz Ahmad said.

Director of Kashmir Medical College Insha Qazi said the institution remains committed to affordability and quality healthcare.

“Our treatment costs are comparable to those in government hospitals. We have highly experienced doctors and top-grade equipment. While our services remain affordable, we are not compromising on quality,” she said.
